Concussions
If you believe you have suffered a concussion while on campus, meet with Student Health Services or your athletic trainer as soon as possible after the injury for a diagnosis and treatment protocol recommendations.
Student Health/Athletic trainers will automatically notify DSS if you are diagnosed with a concussion, and DSS will email you to schedule a meeting to discuss the provision of temporary academic accommodations while you recover from your concussion.
Injury and Illness
If you are unable to attend class due to illness, injury, or a medical procedure:
- Communicate directly with your professors about any missed or upcoming absences. They will determine how absences may impact your performance and help you make a plan for completing missed work.
- For extended absences (e.g., hospitalization, surgery), contact the Office of the Dean of Students at (202) 319-5619 or cua-deanofstudents@cua.edu
- If you require accommodations when you return to campus due to an injury or surgery, i.e, mobility challenges, note-taking difficulty, please complete a request for temporary accommodations or contact the DSS office
PLEASE NOTE:
- Only your instructors can excuse absences. DSS and the Dean of Students may advocate on your behalf if documentation supports the need for absences, but they do not have authority to excuse absences.
- The University does not guarantee remote access to in-person classes. Professors are not required to provide a virtual option as part of course delivery.
