DSS works to ensure needs are being met when administering quizzes, tests, and exams for the registered DSS students with testing accommodations.
Other testing requests for those not registered with DSS will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will depend on the current demands and workload of the DSS office.
The Accommodated Testing Process
Students with testing accommodations must formally submit a Test Proctor Request on the Accommodate Portal.
-
- One request must be made for each test.
- Requests must be submitted at least 7 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) before a test is to be scheduled.
- Requests after this time are not guaranteed that the student will be able to take the test with accommodations
- An automatic email will notify the instructor their student has requested to take a test with DSS. Faculty are then required to log into their Accommodate Portal to review pending Exam Requests.
- Approving the request will allow the student to take the test with DSS and will require the faculty to provide detailed test information.
- Denying the request should be selected if:
- the rest of the class is not being proctored for this exam (i.e. a take home exam)
- the student is not permitted to take the exam at the date and/or time requested
- the faculty is providing a fully accommodated proctored test session
PLEASE NOTE: Because DSS is responsible for ensuring testing accommodations are in place, it is critical that faculty respond to our accommodated testing emails, even if proctoring services are not needed. If a professor's failure to respond to DSS about testing accommodations becomes habitual, DSS will contact the Dean or Department Chair to address this matter.

Additional Proctoring Information:
-
-
- All students will be required to begin at the same time in order to minimize distractions during testing time.
- Some students may not be taking their exam proctored by DSS at the same time as their classmates. DSS will work to place students in a proctored time slot as close to their classmates as possible without missing other classes.
- DSS cannot guarantee student placement in a given test slot.
- DSS will assist with Comps/HESI proctoring. Any request for DSS proctoring for Comps/HESI must submit a request at least 30 days in advance for consideration.
- Specific test information must be provided at least 2 business days prior to the testing date. Faculty who do not adhere to this deadline will not be able to utilize the DSS testing space for their exam, and will need to provide a fully accommodated proctor session for their exam.
- DSS is not able to provide technical support for any lockdown browser issues.
- DSS is not able to control student submission of tests when they finish.
-
Please email DSS at cua-dsstesting@cua.edu if you have any questions regarding the above information or issues with Accommodate.
